Dillo On Windows

Yep. The tiny browser for POSIX-compliant operating systems, but recompiled on Windows.
It’s actually much easier than it may seem.
Also, if you have no clue why you can’t do any of this, uhh, you need Cygwin, genius.
Alright. Shut down Cygwin if it’s running and re-download the installer. Got that?
Now you need these packages:
  • Devel Category
    • autoconf
    • automake
    • gcc
    • gtk+-devel
    • make
  • Libs Category
    • glib
    • glib-devel
    • gtk+
    • jpeg
    • libpng
    • libpng-devel (match versions)
  • Utils Category
    • bzip2
    • patch
  • Xorg Category
    • xorg-x11-base
    • xorg-x11-devel
    Now, I had a bit of trouble with the glib libraries and the GTK crap. But it’s stupidly simple. Just click on the text that either says ‘Install’, ‘Skip’, ‘Default’ or something similar, and click on it until it gives you a version number. Then just let the Cygwin installer do the rest.
    After that’s done, download the Dillo source from here: http://www.dillo.org/download/
    At the time of this writing, I’m pretty sure the newest version is 0.8.5, which you can get here.
    Okay. So download it to your Cygwin home directory, which should be something like C:cygwinhome[Insert Your Username Here]
    Now you need to untar and unzip and all of that crap. Winzip will do the trick.
    Or you can just download the Cygwin compression utilities. Either way, it’ll work.
    And if you get a file with no extension, with a name like “[Content]”, just rename it to a .tar file.
    Extract the files.
    Okay, so all of that shit is done. Now to compile. Go into Cygwin, and start the Cygwin/X11. (The site said it’s required, and I had it already, but to just compile Dillo you probably don’t need the Cygwin/X server, though it’d be pretty useless without it.)
    Anyways, once you’re in the Cyg/X command prompt, go to the Dillo source directory, which should be something like /home/[your username]/dillo-[version number]
    If you don’t know what the directory is named, and if you’re stupid, *sigh* just type ‘ls’.
    Now if you didn’t know THAT, you REALLY shouldn’t be here.
    Anyways, moving right along. Once you’re in that directory, type ./configure; make; make install
    Or, the site gave an alternative, ./configure; make; make install-strip
    A ton of text should be printing on your screen. Just let it do it’s thing. If it screams at you with errors, probably something like ‘ERROR: _____ not found’, whatever was in the blank spot, you don’t have. Download it. You’re smart. Run the Cygwin installer. Download the right packages. Boom.
    Anyways, if it successfully compiles Dillo, POOF. Just type ‘dillo’ at your Cyg/X command prompt and it’ll run! w00t! And the best part is that it can actually access the Internet.

    Now I am off to attempt to compile some more Linux/Unix/POSIX shit on Windows!
